The story goes back and forth between Elisa's life in Cuba before the Revolution, her secret love affair with a young rebel and the days right after Fidel Castro takes power before her family flees to America. And Marisol's trip where she discovers her Grandfather and falls in love with Luis (a dissident) and with her Grandfather's help smuggles Luis out of the country.
