Dining with Mom ~Eat Drink Love Catering

First off we have a picture of me and Mom after we got our hair fixed at Today's Hair. Big thanks to Bunny for taking the picture and for Lisa and Susan for the fabulous hair styles.

We went to Eat Drink Love Catering, while I have been here before they have changed locations and I really like the new place. Lovely views of the back bay.

We would have eaten outside if it had been a bit warmer. We got the Croque Monsieur for $12 On house made brioche with ham, & béchamel. There was lots of ham and it was very filling and tasty. My Mom who has trouble walking didn't have any trouble getting inside, so I hope to take her back again when the weather is nicer.

Elsewhere by Dean Koontz (Goodreads Author)

ElsewhereElsewhere by Dean Koontz
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Likable characters and an interesting plot combine for an awesome read.

Jeffrey Coltrane befriends a homeless man (Ed) who ask him to hide a mysterious box and gives him instructions to destroy it unopened if he doesn't return within a specified time. Thinking that "Spooky Ed" is delusional and paranoid he really doesn't take his warnings seriously until Falkirk and his minions arrive in town. Jeff barely has time to hide the contents of the box (the box was too big to hide unopened in the amount of time Jeff had) before his home is invaded and searched by Falkirk and his agents. After they leave Amity's mouse accidentally activates the key and Amity, Jeff and the Mouse wind up in a different and much more dangerous multiverse.

Meanwhile another version of Ed in a different universe has befriended Michelle (in her timeline Amity and Jeff died, in their timeline Michelle walked out on them and was never heard from again) and makes plans to reunite the Coltranes.

After extreme peril to everyone involved with the "key to everywhere". Ed manages to get the reunited Coltrane family to the ideal world where they are safe from the people who want to harm them in their own timeline

Straight into Darkness by Faye Kellerman

Straight into DarknessStraight into Darkness by Faye Kellerman
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I love Faye Kellerman so I really wanted to like this book, but I didn't. It couldn't decide if it wanted to be a historical novel exploring Hitlers rise to power or a murder mystery (solving the deaths of several women)

First there was no character development and I pretty much hated all the characters, including the main character Berg although I was appalled at his murder. Secondly nothing in the book really made sense the solution to the murders felt rushed, the betrayals seemed contrived and the ending seemed totally unrealistic.

The Weaver's Legacy: A historical epic novel of the Irish in the American West

The Weaver's Legacy: A historical epic novel of the Irish in the American WestThe Weaver's Legacy: A historical epic novel of the Irish in the American West by Olive Collins
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I had high hopes for this book a I would like to read more Irish and Irish American History, unfortunately this book is extremely short on HISTORY. it's not so much a Historical Novel as a soap that is set in a certain period with very little details of the period provided.

Goldie's family (and her nickname was a major annoyance supposedly the Indians gave her, the nickname because of the color of her hair but then it's belabored several times that she had red hair???) immigrated to America and joined a wagon train headed to the Black Hills, lead by a cousin Aengus. Aengus had moved to the Black Hills several years early and had a prosperous farm, and Indian wife and step-son (Chaytan). Shortly after they arrive a plague of locust comes and Baby Miriam disappears, while in Goldie's care.

Chaytan comes to break horses for Barry (Goldie's Father) and Goldie befriends him, she also goes to Aengus' house where his wife Makawee teaches Goldie to weave. Before Aengus is killed he and Makawee have a daughter Winona. The rest of the family shuns the Indians and one day her brother Lorcan brands Chaytan. After that Chaytan refuses to break the horses and Barry forbids Goldie to go to Aengus' home. After Aengus is found dead, Lorcan goes to shoot buffalo and eventually joins the army to wipe out the Indians or force them onto reservations. Everyone knows that Lorcan and Timothy Breen had something to do with Aengus death, but nothing is done to them as it is believed that Aengus was arming the Indians. Goldie's sister Frances married Owen Breen

Irritatingly the book is narrated from 1937 by Goldie's niece Lucy. Lucy is supposedly Lorcan's daughter and the book begins with Lorcan (who was presumed dead) coming back to town. Lucy and her husband Harry, return to Goldie's home to see if it's really Lorcan and what he wants and what claims he may have to Goldie's fortune which was left to Lucy. After meeting with Lorcan Harry wants to return home (5th Avenue New York), but Lucy wishes to stay in Four Oaks.

Book returned to library (Chapter 27 page 308)
