Hollow City by Ransom Riggs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
It picks up where book one ended. Jacob and the Peculiar Children leave World War II, Wales for England in order to find someone who can help Miss Peregrine. They discover Miss Wren's menagerie of Peculiar Animals but to their dismay discover that Miss Wren left for London to rescue her sister ymbrynes. After overcoming many obstacles they arrive in London and find Miss Wren holed up in the Peculiar Archives which has been turned into an ice fortress by Althea.
Unfortunately when Miss Wren gets the peregrine to take human form it turns out to be the evil Caul (Miss Peregrine's brother) who planned the entire thing in order to get the children to take him to Miss Wren (the last free ymbryne). Althea is killed and the ice fortress melts. Jacob discovers he can control the hollows (monsters), but everyone is taken prisoner by Caul except for Emma and Jacob who are rescued by Addison (the Peculiar Dog). They find themselves in present day England, and Jacob with a cell phone that now works calls his Dad to let him know he is OK.
