He had a sketch of who he believed Catherine's kidnapper to be, the same sketch he insisted was the man stalking his daughter years later.

Jennifer Sheridan ask Cole to investigate her fiancee Mark Thurman (an LAPD cop) leading him to discover the cover up of the shooting of an unarmed man and subsequent blackmail of the officers involved by gang leader Akeem D'Muere.

D'Muere and the dirty cops try to frame Cole, for the murder of James Edward Washington (the victims brother who was helping Cole uncover the truth) and drugs but Pike is a wild card they didn't count on. Fearing for Jennifer's life Pike and Cole break out of prison and rush to find Jennifer.

They eventually find her with Mark Thurman and convince Mark to tell the truth. Cole and Mark go to get a copy of the tape showing the unjustified shooting and to cute a deal with the local authorities. But when they come back they find the other cops have taken Jennifer hostage. Their plans to allow D'Muere to kill Cole, Thurman and Jennifer go awry when Pike shows back up with guns blazing.

When Hester disappears from the hospital where she is working while a friend is off sick Monk must use all his resources first to find her and then to rescue her. But when the Chemist who kidnapped her to care for a patient and the three small children he took for their blood is found not guilty due to the testimony of the patient who seems to be cured from the white blood disease "leukemia" Monk is horrified especially after finding numerous graves on the grounds of the cottage where Hester and the children were held prisoner.

Then the patients daughter is found murdered and the Chemist is hanged for her murder but Hester suspects it was the daughter's own Father who murdered her. When he shows up at the hospital after relapsing from his treatment and demands a blood transfusion, the Chemist's brother sees a chance to punish the man who committed the crime his brother hung for and uses his own blood in the transfusion. Which as he suspected lead to the patients death.

Curry Pumpkin Soup

 When I was diagnosed with PMR I decided to change my diet.  Danielle Walker's Against all Grain was one of the BEST cookbooks I found. I wish I could say I stayed on the diet, because I actually did feel better when I was on it. But Bo didn't like most of the recipes and complained about having to eat the same things over and over, and it was difficult to stick to it when eating out so I gave up. But the Curry Pumpkin Soup was one of the recipes he did like.

Told from Ruby's POV her life is turned upside down on her 10th birthday when she accidentally erases her parents memory of her with her new powers. Taken to an interment camp for kids she manages to make them believe she is a GREEN and not the dangerous ORANGE she really is. She watches as the REDS and ORANGES are taken from the camp to be killed.

Rescued from the camp by Cate (Children's League) she soon realizes they have their own agenda and want to use her as a weapon. She escapes from them with the help of Chubs, Liam and Suzume (Yellow she can manipulate electricity), and joins them on their quest to find the Slip Kid and a way to go home. She falls deeply in love with Liam and slowly reveals her secrets to him.

They find the Slip Kid ( Clancy, the President's son) and he teaches Ruby to use her powers, but Clancy also uses his powers to get inside her head and rape her. Chubs Liam and Ruby try to leave (Suzume was allowed to leaver earlier with her cousin) but are stopped by Clancy and his followers. Liam is badly beaten, then the PSI soldiers arrive. Chubs rescues Ruby and they hide in the lake until everyone is gone. They return to Clancy's apartment and use his laptop to find Jack's father and for Chubs to get in touch with is parents. Liam returns to camp and the three set off to take Jack's letter to his Father (Jack was killed saving Chub's life). Jack's Father shoots Chubs and Liam and Ruby make a deal with the Children's League to save his life.

They don't know if Chubs is alive or dead but Ruby makes a deal with the Children's League to let Liam go and she wipes his memory of her and alters his memory of Chubs so he believes Chubs made it home. The book ends with Liam leaving for home.

I found it irritating how they kept switching between Ira and Ruth's story and Luke and Sophia's story. I would have preferred them telling Ira and Ruth's story first ending with the car wreck and then pick up with Luke and Sophia's story.

Ira and Ruth fell and love and married. Due to contracting the Mumps when he was serving in WWII Ira was unable to Father children. To replace the children they never had they began buying art during the summer vacations (unknown at the time artist). Now Ruth is dead and Ira is left alone with the art collection which is now worth millions as the unknown artist are now famous. But Ira's most treasured art piece is a painting done by a young boy Ruth tutored and they had hoped to adopt before he disappeared. In his will he specified that this painting be auctioned off FIRST.

Luke was injured during a bull ride and the medical bills have he and his Mother in danger of losing their ranch. The only way to save the ranch is for him to continue to ride, but riding bulls could very well cost him his life as the metal plate protecting his skull is fragile. He has also fallen heavily for a young art student Sophia, and her pleas for him not to ride and risk his life weigh heavily on him. He finally decides to stop riding and resigns himself to losing the ranch.

He and Sophia find Ira's car wreck and help get him to the hospital. While he is there Sophia honors Ira's request and reads his letter to Ruth which she and Luke find very touching. Sadly Ira never recovers from his injuries and dies in the hospital. Later Luke and Sophia are attending the auction Ira arranged and when nobody bids on the portrait of Ruth, Luke does. Which to the other attendees dismay means he just inherited the entire collection.

Now extremely wealthy Luke pays off the loan on the ranch and he and Sophia make plans for their future.
