House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

Bryce Quinlan is half-Fae (her biological Father is the Autumn King) Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen Angel enslaved to Micah. Micah has plans to use the Horn to open the gates of Hel, but unfortunately for him when he blackmailed Danika (Bryce's best friend) into stealing the Horn from the temple for him she hid it away and refused to tell him where even when she was tortured by Micah and shot full of synth which caused her to kill her Pack and then herself.

Micah figures the one person who might know where Danika hid the horn is Bryce so he enlists her aid in hunting for the Horn, and partners her with Hunt.

Hunt and Bryce fall in love, but their love seems doomed when Hunt is imprisoned for planning to rebel against the Republic his co-conspirators are killed, but Hunt receives a lighter sentence because after falling for Bryce he tried to stop the rebellion. Micah finds the perfect way to punish him by selling him to Sandriel.

Micah realizes that Danika had the Horn tattooed on Bryce's back (without Bryce knowing) and leaves the Summit in order to capture Bryce and use the Horn while everyone else who could possibly stop him is busy at the Summit. Bryce is able to secretly call Jesiba (her boss) who has the call broadcast to everyone at the Summit. Bryce is able to get Micah to confess to killing Danika and having the Horn stolen. They also watch in horror as Micah tries to use the Horn, and injects Bryce with Synth. With the extra power synth provides and Lehabah's help Bryce is able to rescue Syrinx and escape. Realizing that Bryce needs more time Lehabah (fire sprite), sacrifices herself so Bryce will have time to assemble the Godslayer Rifle that Jesiba keeps in her office and take the antidote to Synth. Bryce kills Micah and leaves the library only to realize that Micah was able to open the gates. She takes Syrinx home where the Chimera will be safe and leaves to help the humans in the Meadows.

The rulers at the Summit refused to send help. Tharion (Mer) tries to send help but the best he can do is to get his people to take people under the surface. Hypaxia (Witch Queen) orders her people to send help and when Sandriel is distracted by Ruhn (Bryce's half-brother) Hypaxia removes the witch's ink that keeps Hunt's power suppressed allowing him to kill Sandriel. With Sandriel dead and the witche's ink removed Hunt is able to go with Ruhn & Fury to attempt to rescue Bryce. Bryce is able to use her Starborn powers to close the gates, but the Asteri try to kill her with Brimstone Missle Launchers. Only Hunt shielding her saves Bryce's life, but it cost him his. With Hunt dying Bryce begs for help and Danika manages to answer the call to be her anchor. Bryce makes the drop and the Gate gives her its blessing  ("The power shall always belong to those who give their lives to the city")  Bryce's Drop is fueled by all the souls who handed over a drop of their magic to make a wish on the Gate allowing her to reach higher levels then her magic which was near negligible would allow. The first light from her Drop is able to repair the damaged city seal all the Gates and heal Hunt. Hunt is able to keep Bryce alive (CPR) long enough for Bryce to make her ascent back to life fueled by LOVE.

Rigelus, the Bright Hand of the Asteri calls Bryce with his deal. Hunt is no longer a slave but they must never use their powers.

Jesiba has some sort of deal with the Prince of Hel, Aidas. And several times Aidas aided Bryce and Hunt. (Who is Hunt's Father?)

The best one yet. Nesta finds her calling as a Valkyrie leader and becomes friends with Gwyn and Emerie ( I really hope they get their own books and I am hoping that Gwyn wins Azriel's heart). Nesta also admits her love for Cassian and Rhysand promises them an elaborate mating ceremony after Nesta is able to save Feyre's life and the life of their child by giving her power back to the Cauldron.

The Two Minute Rule by Robert Crais

The Two Minute RuleThe Two Minute Rule by Robert Crais
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed getting to know Max Holman, I didn't expect to like him as he was in prison for robbing banks and he was a druggie at the time he robbed banks. But he turned his life around when he was in jail and when you discover he was caught because he stopped to save a man's life it's easy to see how FBI agent Katherine Pollard fell in love with him and why she was willing to help him find out who killed his son.

The book also had many twists and turns in figuring out who killed Richard Holman, and why. It was easy to see how Max and Katherine thought it was one guy only to discover later that it wasn't him and that the real 5th man was someone they hadn't even considered.
