The Cat Who Could Read Backwards (Cat Who..., #1)

The Cat Who Could Read Backwards (Cat Who..., #1)The Cat Who Could Read Backwards by Lilian Jackson Braun
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Not sure why I haven't read this one before as I have read numbers 2, 3, and 4 and enjoyed them as usual it is a quirky read. In the book Qwilleran has just come to town and been assigned the art beat. Befriended by the art critic for the newspaper he rents the downstairs apartment from him and soon finds himself running errands and cat setting for him. Qwilleran becomes enchanted with Koko (the cat) and spends many happy hours playing with him.

When a local gallery owner winds up dead, Qwilleran starts investigating oddly enough the investigation begins to point toward the art critic who has also meet an untimely end. When Qwilleran with Koko's help finds the stash of paintings supposedly by the famous Scrano the pieces began to fall in place. When the killer returns to cover his tracks Koko alerts Qwilleran and the two capture the dastardly artist.

All we lack is a mirror

The walls were repainted light blue. Technically it's considered an off white color, but it looks light blue to me.

The granite counter top with the under-mount sink was installed. I am really loving it, it makes clean up so easy.

I found these cute bags to keep my makeup in.

Bo taped around the shower so he didn't get paint on the tile.

I found this light fixture at Overstock.com. I just love it.

Bo also got new light switches and outlet. I particularly like the outlet it has a nightlight built into it.

Bo got the sink faucet installed. I just love the sleek polished chrome design of the faucets, it makes cleaning them so much easier.

I got the towel bar that matches the faucets. It's a Kohler Coralais 24" Towel Bar in Polished Chrome.

Bo painted the trim for the door and put it back up.

And finally the commode was reinstalled. it's the only thing from the old bathroom. I found the neat Toilet Paper Holder at Ross'.

The cute wicker magazine holder was at Marshalls on clearance. I was hesitant about the dark brown color (I would have preferred white), but it actually compliments the decorative towels I found at Kohls nicely.

The toothbrush holder, cup, soap dish and dispenser are Lenox Butterfly Meadow.

This small makeup mirror is a temporary fix until we get our bathroom mirrow.

Wamsutta® Toilet Lid Cover in Slate from Bed Bath & Beyond. I got it and the matching towels on Clearance + a 20% off on the entire order coupon thanks to my walking buddy. The towels are so luxurious I feel like I am at a spa when I get out of the shower. The Bathmat was on sale at Kohl's. And I just adore the cat toilet brush holder hiding over in the corner. I found it at Bed Bath & Beyond.

The Decorative Towels I got at Kohl's the same day I purchased the bathmat

I just love my vanity. The drawers give me so much more space. I can actually get everything inside the vanity. I love having all the storage.

And the extra floor space makes the bathroom feel larger.

This is perfect for storing Q-tips and cottonballs

The shower curtain is Lenox Butterfly Meadow too. The crotchet Butterfly was made by my Great-Aunt and I had it in the bedroom before. I may get a different color for the back as the blue doesn't really stand out.

Lots of space in the shower for everything. I just love that.

I am very pleased with the Master Bath remodel even though it seemed to take forever. All we lack now is the bathroom mirror and I think (fingers crossed) we will be getting it soon.

Zoo 2 (Zoo, #1.5)

Zoo 2 (Zoo, #1.5)Zoo 2 by James Patterson
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

It's very seldom I like a TV series or movie better than the book, but in this case I much prefer the TV series.

Jackson Oz is living with his wife Chloe and son Eli when he is summoned to work on a cure for the HAC (Human Animal Conflict). He leaves Chloe in Paris with her parents while he jets off around the world after Feral Humans.

Chloe's Step-Mother who is suffering from dementia let's the wild animals into their apartment. Chloe's Father sacrifices himself so Chloe and Eli can escaped, eventually she is reunited with Jackson who has had to weather his own near misses with death. Unfortunately Chloe is infected and their only hope is Jackson will find a cure in time.

As usual Oz saves the day, but before we can rejoice the COCKROACHES COME.

Rushing Waters by Danielle Steel

Rushing WatersRushing Waters by Danielle Steel
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Annoyed that when she mentioned Hurricane Katerina it was in connection with New Orleans nary a mention of Mississippi where Hurricane Katrina did the most damage, and uh you know actually MADE LANDFALL.

Hurricane Katerina did not hit New Orleans, Hurricane Katerina made landfall near the Louisiana–Mississippi border with 120 mph (190 km/h) sustained winds, still at Category 3 intensity. Katrina maintained strength well into Mississippi, finally losing hurricane strength more than 150 miles (240 km) inland near Meridian, Mississippi. The Gulf coast of Mississippi suffered massive damage from the impact of Hurricane Katrina on August 29, leaving 238 people dead, 67 missing, and billions of dollars in damage: bridges, barges, boats, piers, houses and cars were washed inland.[75] Katrina traveled up the entire state of Mississippi, and afterwards, all 82 counties in Mississippi were declared disaster areas for federal assistance, 47 for full assistance.[75]

After making a brief initial landfall in Louisiana, Katrina had made its final landfall near the state line, and the eyewall passed over the cities of Bay St. Louis, MS and Waveland, MS as a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 120 mph (190 km/h).[1] Katrina's powerful right-front quadrant passed over the west and central Mississippi coast, causing a powerful 27-foot (8.2 m) storm surge, which penetrated 6 miles (10 km) inland in many areas and up to 12 miles (19 km) inland along bays and rivers; in some areas, the surge crossed Interstate 10 for several miles.[1] Hurricane Katrina brought strong winds to Mississippi, which caused significant tree damage throughout the state. The highest unofficial reported wind gust recorded from Katrina was one of 135 mph (217 km/h) in Poplarville, MS in Pearl River County.[1]

She also claimed that Hurricane Sandy was worse than Hurricane Katerina, which isn't true. It is also patently obvious that Danielle Steel has never been in a Hurricane

When Hurricane Ophelia hits Grace Madison and her daughter are still in Grace's apartment because Grace refused to leave even though the apartment was flooded during Hurricane Sandy. Luckily for them a rescue boat comes by soon after Grace's apartment is flooded again and they are helped into the boat along with Grace's dog. So glad they let the dog in the boat. During Katerina many people were forced to leave their pets behind because rescue workers refused to allow them in the boats.

They are then taken to a shelter where people are allowed to keep their pets with them. Must be nice down here there are currently no shelters that allow you to keep your pets with you. You are forced to leave your pets with strangers at a separate shelter. Eventually their neighbor Bob finds them at the shelter and they go to stay with him and his agent Jim Aldrich at Jim's apartment. Grace and Jim enjoy each others company and eventually become a couple. While Ellen is still in New York helping her Mother recover from the Hurricane her husband informs her over the phone that he wants a divorce so he can marry someone else. Eventually Ellen decides to relocate to New York permanently and the friendship between her and Bob blossoms.

Gina realizes her ex-husband is more dependable than her lover and returns to England with him.

A young college boy Peter has to deal with the guilt he feels over surviving when his friend and roommate Ben didn't after they attempt to swim out of the downtown area where they had foolishly stayed in their apartment to watch the storm.

A ER doctor finds romance with a rescue worker she meets during her hospitals evacuation after they lose power.

Rogue Lawyer by John Grisham (Goodreads Author)

Rogue LawyerRogue Lawyer by John Grisham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Grisham takes on the tough topic of Police invading our homes and MURDERING OUR PETS and sometimes the homeowners themselves.

Rogue Lawyer, Sebastian Rudd, and his paralegal/bodyguard, Partner represent Doug Renfro after the police SWAT Team invade his home during the middle of the night, murder his wife (Kitty) and their two dogs (12 year old yellow lab Spike and a small schnauzer) and severely wound Doug Renfro. Doug & Kitty were model citizens who had owned their home in a quiet suburb of the city for 30 years. Their "crime" having an unsecured wireless router that a 19 year old neighbor piggybacked off of without their knowledge or permission. Thanks to stupid state laws Doug is charged with the attempted murder of a police officer. In contrast the real criminal 19 year old Lance is arrested in the middle of the afternoon by three plain clothes detectives who politely knock on his door and serve him with a warrant. Sebastian not only proves that Doug and Kitty were INNOCENT of all crimes but that after being awaken by the gunshots that killed Spike in their home there was no way they could know that the armed invaders wearing war paint were police officers. The Jury finds Doug Renfro NOT GUILTY and ask if their is any way the police officers who MURDERED Kitty can be charged. Unfortunately not, due to bad State laws that give police officers immunity even when they are in the WRONG.

Other cases Rudd takes aren't so easy for him to deal with Tadeo Zapate refuses to take the excellent deal Rudd brokered for him and Arch Swanger uses him to communicate with the police. An ongoing custody battle with his lesbian ex-wife leaves him feeling disillusioned. At the end of the book Rudd is contemplating leaving town for good.
