Darla has inherited her Aunt Dee's bookstore in New York and is holding an autograph signing for a popular author of teen mysteries. When the author is mowed down during a cigarette break Darla suspects foul play. With the help of Hamlet (Aunt Dee's cat), Jake (the ex-cop who lives downstairs) and Reese (Jake's cop friend) Darla starts sleuthing until she uncovers the surprising truth and a confession is forthcoming after a ghostly intervention.
