The Mirror (The Lost Bride Trilogy, #2)

The Mirror (The Lost Bride Trilogy, #2)The Mirror by Nora Roberts
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The plot didn't advance much, but we got lots of character development and new relationships. Sonya got the account with Ryder even though her ex-fiance did his best to sabotage her. As a result, he was fired. Cleo and Owen finally get together, and Owen finishes her boat. The book ends with Cleo, her cat Pye, Sonya, and her dog Yoda going for a sail on the newly finished boat.

We do discover more of the story behind the curse. The curse had nothing to do with love; it was all about greed and the desire to be mistress of the manor.

Clover and the other ghost show themselves more.

The Talents Trilogy #2 Bringer of Dust

Bringer of Dust (The Talents Trilogy, #2)Bringer of Dust by J.M. Miro
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked Ordinary Monsters better. I found this hard to follow as you were constantly skipping from one character to another. So just about the time I got interested in what was happening to one character Miro had moved on to another character which made me feel the book was a bit disjointed.

The book picks up with everyone trying to rescue Marlow. Charlie has lost his talent (healing) and was sent back to Scotland to ask Caroline Ficke to come to a villa outside Agrigento where the talents that survived the destruction of Cairndale have taken refuge. A discovery of writings left behind by the Agnoscenti has them hopeful they can find a way to help Marlow but they need Mrs Fricke to translate them. Mrs Fricke is also still taking care of the glyph-twisted children and has collected dust from the body of Jacob Marber. When she decides to go she carries both with her with unforeseen consequences. During a fight with Jeta (a new character and she is a bone witch), Charlie is infected with the dust and regains the ability to heal. He also starts to manifest more talents and is feared to be the Dark Talent mentioned in the prophecy. All the glyph-twisted children are lost except for Deirdre.

Komako finds the Spanish glyph and learns her prophecy, before returning to the villa.

Alice and Ribs confirm the presence of a second orsine before returning to the villa. It's guarded by the Abbess (Berghast sister and the woman who caused Alice's Mother to set a fire killing numerous people and winding up in an insane asylum).

The keywrasse is at the villa protecting the children. Mrs Fricke realizes that Deirdre can connect to the glyph in Paris and open the orsine from the villa. Oskar and Komako are left behind to protect the children and everyone else leaves for Paris. The drughr attack the villa and all the children are killed Komako turns some of the dead children into litches to fight off the drughr and save Mrs Fricke, Deirdre, and Oskar. At the time they didn't realize the keywrasse was in danger and that it carried the keys to the door of the First Talents prison. The drughrs take the keywrasse and free Alastair

Jeta has been befriended by the drughr who is Marlow's Mother and she helps Ribs rescue Charlie after the Abbess puts him in a well. The drughr takes the dust in Alice and goes through the orsine to help Marlow.

Marlow meets up with Berghast and joins forces with him in an attempt to destroy Alastair Cairndale the First Talent while he still sleeps, but they find him already awake and he overpowers Berghast. Alastair claims that Marlow is his 6th talent, but before he can harm him Charlie arrives and helps Marlow and the keywrasse escape. After Charlie brings Marlow and the keywrasse back they (Alice, Ribs, Jeta, Charlie & Marlow) close the orsine and return to the villa.

(New Characters) A small group of Agnoscenti still live. Kamal al-Ashur sends Yasmin (skin shuffler) to find the Dark Talent after receiving a message from the Shaykh stating the First Talent has awakened and his prison opened. It has been foreseen that the First Talent will soon walk among the living again.
