The House at the End of the World by Dean Koontz (Goodreads Author)

The House at the End of the WorldThe House at the End of the World by Dean Koontz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I found it hard to get into as there is a lot going on in the first few chapters and I was trying to sort everything out. Katie has bought an island where she is the only inhabit after a tragedy has uprooted her from her former life. Her closest neighbors on a nearby island are a couple with a teenage daughter named Libby and some sort of government research facility on the largest of the three islands Ringrock. At the beginning of the book Katie is flashing back to the past (the tragedies that had her fleeing her former life) and the present. We also get Libby's POV. And we learn Katie's only companion is a fox she has named Michael J. who has domesticated himself.

When the alien life form escapes Ringrock Katie and Libby are the only survivors of the catastrophe not only must they flee Molach, they have to flee Katie's island sanctuary in order to survive the nuclear blast that the government will trigger to contain Molach and then flee the government officials who will seek to silence Katie and Libby forever to prevent them from revealing the truth of what happened on Ringrock

The Cabinet of Dr. Leng (Pendergast, #21)

The Cabinet of Dr. Leng (Pendergast, #21)

The Cabinet of Dr. Leng by Douglas Preston
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It picks up where Bloodless left off. Pendergast returns to New York but he is determined to follow Constance into the past. He succeeds in repairing the Time Machine and engages D'Agosta's companionship in traveling back in time with him.

Constance has set herself up as a Duchess and arranged to meet Leng. She was able to rescue her brother Joe from prison and her child self (nicknamed Binky) from the streets but hasn't been able to rescue Mary when things take a terrible turn.

Ferenc (the man Pendergast hired to repair the Time Machine) betrayed Pendergast and used the Time Machine in hopes of buying some rare coins. Unfortunately, he was captured by Leng and revealed Pendergast's presence as well as Constance's identity. Leng arranged for Binky to be kidnapped and sent Mary's ashes to Constance.

Leng demands the formula in exchange for Binky. Constance prepares to give it to him when one more surprise arrives Diogenes Pendergast... "I am come," he said, "as your Angel of Vengeance."

Books in the Leng Quartet: The Cabinet of Curiosities, Bloodless, The Cabinet of Dr. Leng and a 4th novel which they are currently writing.

There was a parallel story which I sort of ignored but Coldmoon was investigating a murder on an Indian reservation and D'Agosta was investigating a murder at the Museum, the two murders turned out to be tied together and Coldmoon and D'Agosta briefly worked together. When the murderer was revealed to be Armendariz ( I think he may also be Diogenes) Coldmoon followed Armendariz out of the country and D'Agosta partnered up with Pendergast.

Still Life (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #1)

Still Life (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #1)Still Life by Louise Penny
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was at a loss as to who the killer was until close to the end. I think I figured it out about the same time Clare did. Really enjoyable characters that I am looking forward to getting to know better.
