Lillian Carter aka Angelica a sought after artist model, lost her Mother in the Spanish Flue outbreak of 1919. Due to gaining weight the jobs began to dry up and her landlord made improper advances. When he kills his wife the police try to link Angelica to the murder fleeing the investigation she goes to the house of one of the former artist she worked for, only to discover that he has moved. Through a stroke of luck she becomes the private secretary to Helen Frick. When Helen's Father dies of an overdose of a sleeping drought, a priceless diamond goes missing and Lillian's dalliance with Helen's fiance comes to light Lillian finds herself once more on the run.
Fifty years later Veronica Weber is at the Frick Museum (the former Frick Mansion) on a photo shoot. When a series of misadventures finds her locked in the museum during a blizzard she follows the clues Helen left and discovers the diamond hidden away in a secret compartment.
