V is for Vengeance by Sue Grafton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
When Kinsey turns a shoplifter (Audrey) in she doesn't expect to get embroiled in a murder, but when the shoplifter supposedly commits suicide days after her arrest her clueless fiance hires Kinsey to dig into Audrey's past.
Kinsey turns up a shoplifting ring run by the mob, and finds dirt on a dirty cop from her past. With help from Dante she manages to stick it to the dirty cop by turning evidence over to Diana Alvarez, the cut throat reporter who will do anything for a story.
