Library of Souls (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #3)

Library of Souls (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #3)Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Sad that the series is over, but love the happy ending.

This book picks up where book 2 leaves off. Emma, Jacob and Addison set off to rescue the Peculiar Children that were taken prisoner and the ymbrynes. They receive help getting into Caul's fortress from some unexpected allies.

They stumble upon Sharon's Ferry and the mysterious ferryman takes Emma, Jacob and Addison to Bentham (Miss Peregrine's other brother). Bentham is busy trying to atone for his sins and helps the kids use the Panloopticon he created to get into Caul's fortress. He also reveals Caul's real objective is to find the lost city of Abaton and The Library of Soul's it contains. Both Bentham and Caul believe that they can increase their powers by taking the souls of powerful Peculiar's stored in the library. Emma and Jacob also discover that Bentham took part of Abe's soul which weakened Abe's powers to the point he could no longer protect himself or others from hollows and that is why he cut himself off from the Peculiar World.

Besides being able to control the hollows Jacob has another talent he alone can see and hold the jars the souls are stored in, in The Library of Souls. Caul is adamant about Jacob being taken alive for this reason. Jacob is able to use the hollows to free the Peculiar Children and the ymbrynes, but before they can reach safety Bentham (who Miss Peregrine is rather harsh with) double crosses them and he and Caul take Jacob, Emma, Miss Peregrine and some others to Abaton and the library. Caul forces Jacob to read the writing on the jars which is in Old Peculiar (so Jacob has no clue what the words mean). Caul figures out how to use the spirit pool to absorb the soul of a powerful Peculiar and shoots Jacob so no one else will be able to do the same, but Jacob survives the gunshot and upon Miss Peregrine's orders helps Bentham absorb a powerful soul so he can fight Caul. While Caul and Bentham fight Miss Peregrine and the other ymbrynes use the instructions Bentham gave Miss Peregrine to close the loop.

Once everyone is safe Jacob makes the painful decision to return to the present day and his parents. Not wanting things to turn out the way they did with Abe, Emma insist that they revert to being "just friends" but agrees to write him. After his parents intercept some letters from Emma they are convinced he is crazy and plan to send him to a mental institution when Miss Peregrine and the Peculiar Children arrive in present day Florida to rescue him. It seems that all the Peculiar's that were in the Abaton loop when the ymbrynes closed it can now visit the future without aging forward. Emma and Jacob can now be together in the present day, and resume their relationship.

  1. i hated the ending

  2. The ending wad just too simple for my taste...

Yay, they were in Abaton and the problem of aging forward is gome. Could have been done way better
