Breakdown (Alex Delaware #31)

Breakdown (Alex Delaware #31)Breakdown by Jonathan Kellerman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It kept me guessing to the very last chapter.

When it starts out there really isn't a crime to investigate, Alex just wants to make sure that Ovid Chase (who he saw as a favor to Lou Sherman, before he died) is OK after his homeless Mother (who Lou was treating) is taken into custody on a 5150. No one seems to know what happened to the boy and Zelda is unable to tell them, so Alex ask Milo to help him find the boy. When Zelda is released from custody Alex helps her find a place to stay but before he can question her about Ovid's whereabouts she disappears.

Zelda turns up dead in socialite Enid DePauw's garden, with her history of trespassing no one thinks anything of it even after Bernstein discovers she was poisoned. It's assumed she accidentally ingested something in the garden that killed her. But then Alex catches Enid in a lie and when Milo and Alex realize that both Enid's housekeeper and another domestic the housekeeper was friendly with are missing they start to get suspicious. After visiting her lawyer's office Milo discovers that the lawyer's former assistant died from poisoning under mysterious circumstances. But they can't find a connection until they start digging into the past. When they discover that Enid is Zelda's Aunt and a fortune is at stake, Alex fears that Ovid was just one more obstacle in Enid's path to inheriting the entire family fortune.

Slowly Milo builds a case against Enid and her lawyer, but even after they are in custody Alex fears he will never learn Ovid's fate until a phone call from Lou's wife changes everything.

The Eagles are Coming

The Dark Lord over at Daily Kos who apparently has no sense of humor when it comes to she who shall not be named banned greywolf359, the author of this awesome diary, It's Over Gandalf. We Need to Unite Behind Saruman To Save Middle Earth From Sauron!  Luckily greywolf359 cross posted it, so we can enjoy it at Caucus 99 percent.

Keep in mind how the story ends, you know when it looked like all hope was gone and Gandalf and his hobbit friends had been defeated Gandalf delivered the ultimate smack-down to Saruman , everyone united behind Gandalf and Sauron was defeated.

For those of you who are #StillSanders don't lose hope the Eagles are coming.

Five Reasons to NEVER VOTE FOR Hillary Clinton

Since we can't criticize the poor woman on Daily Kos anymore. My take on the Five Reasons to be Enthusiastic about Hillary Clinton NOT.

1. Hillary Clinton is very intelligent, knowledgeable, and experienced NOT. I mean how smart do you have to be to handle classified information correctly? How dumb do you have to be to mingle your foundation emails, your personal emails and your work emails as Secretary of State? While it probably wasn't illegal it was DUMB.  But Ted Rall said it best 3 Big Reasons Hillary Clinton Should Never Be President Zero record of accomplishment, terrible role model and she's kinda dumb.

2. Hillary Clinton has been consistently liberal, EXCEPT FOR ...... WHEN SHE WAS A GOLDWATER GIRL and as Lee Rockwell explains Hillary Clinton Is a Conservative Republican

3. A vote for Hillary Clinton is a vote for a liberal Supreme Court majority Wouldn't count on it, she will sell the position to the highest bidder, heaven forbid her and Bill be dead broke when they leave the White House this time around.

4. Hillary Clinton is Strong on Climate Change except when she isn't. How Hillary Clinton's State Department Sold Fracking to the World

5. She knows how to to take the fight to the Republicans, because she is one of them. Heck Bill Clinton encouraged Donald Trump to run for President. The Trumps and Clintons are very cozy bedfellows indeed. Donald Trump talked politics with Bill Clinton weeks before launching 2016 bid

The Murder House

The Murder HouseThe Murder House by James Patterson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The only thing that kept it from being 5 Stars was the ending you don't always have to have a romantic ending Mr. Patterson and having Noah and Jenna moving in together as a couple at the end makes no sense, when there wasn't a romantic relationship established during the book. I mean exactly when did they fall in love, when Jenna lied on the stand and got Noah convicted? or was it when Noah held a gun on her convinced she was the ruthless killer who framed him?

The book is told from the point of view of three people Jenna (the cop) Noah (the man convicted of a crime he didn't commit) and Holden (the killer, who is obsessed with the Dahlquist family and the history of mental illness that runs through the male line).

The book opens with Noah being arrested for the murder of Melanie Phillips (former girlfriend) and Zachary Stern. Jenna doesn't think he is guilty after all when they go to arrest him he is getting it on with his new girlfriend Paige, but when she confronts her Uncle Langdon James (who is the Chief of Police) about it he suspends her from the force. Unbeknownst to her Paige's rich husband is paying Langdon to frame Noah. Paige pays Noah's bail and while he is out on bail Langdon is brutally murdered. Convinced that Noah killed her Uncle to keep him from testifying, Jenna goes to Noah's house to kill him, she winds up not killing him but lies on the stand to get him convicted. Noah is sentenced to life in prison.

Things start nagging at Jenna. First is the fact Noah supposedly shot someone in the eye during a school shooting when he was 12. Jenna quickly figures out there had to be two shooters and that it was the second shooter who shot the boy in the eye. Second she finds her Uncle's confession about framing Noah. She comes forward with that information and Noah's conviction is overturned, although Jenna still thinks he might be the killer.

Jenna is ordered to drop the investigation into the the murders by Chief Marks and when she continues to do so he suspends her. Jenna is also dealing with flashbacks relating to the time she was kidnapped as a small child. During one of the flashbacks she sees Aidan and is convinced he is the murderer. She tries to question him and he runs, when she breaks into his home she finds wax figurines in the basement. The bodies of two coeds who went missing years ago are found along with a bloody knife that has Aidan and Jenna's prints on it. Jenna is arrested for murder, and everyone is looking for Aidan. When it is later proved that the blood on the knife isn't the coeds and that the knife wasn't the murder weapon Jenna is released, but Chief Marks still thinks she is involved some how.

Returning to the murder house her memories of the kidnapping come back and she realizes that Aidan rescued her when she was a child. Before she can talk with Aidan he flees, Noah confronts Jenna with the information he discovered but before they can talk Justin enters. He tries to get Jenna to shoot Noah, but before Jenna makes a horrible mistake she remembers who kidnapped her.

Library of Souls (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #3)

Library of Souls (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #3)Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Sad that the series is over, but love the happy ending.

This book picks up where book 2 leaves off. Emma, Jacob and Addison set off to rescue the Peculiar Children that were taken prisoner and the ymbrynes. They receive help getting into Caul's fortress from some unexpected allies.

They stumble upon Sharon's Ferry and the mysterious ferryman takes Emma, Jacob and Addison to Bentham (Miss Peregrine's other brother). Bentham is busy trying to atone for his sins and helps the kids use the Panloopticon he created to get into Caul's fortress. He also reveals Caul's real objective is to find the lost city of Abaton and The Library of Soul's it contains. Both Bentham and Caul believe that they can increase their powers by taking the souls of powerful Peculiar's stored in the library. Emma and Jacob also discover that Bentham took part of Abe's soul which weakened Abe's powers to the point he could no longer protect himself or others from hollows and that is why he cut himself off from the Peculiar World.

Besides being able to control the hollows Jacob has another talent he alone can see and hold the jars the souls are stored in, in The Library of Souls. Caul is adamant about Jacob being taken alive for this reason. Jacob is able to use the hollows to free the Peculiar Children and the ymbrynes, but before they can reach safety Bentham (who Miss Peregrine is rather harsh with) double crosses them and he and Caul take Jacob, Emma, Miss Peregrine and some others to Abaton and the library. Caul forces Jacob to read the writing on the jars which is in Old Peculiar (so Jacob has no clue what the words mean). Caul figures out how to use the spirit pool to absorb the soul of a powerful Peculiar and shoots Jacob so no one else will be able to do the same, but Jacob survives the gunshot and upon Miss Peregrine's orders helps Bentham absorb a powerful soul so he can fight Caul. While Caul and Bentham fight Miss Peregrine and the other ymbrynes use the instructions Bentham gave Miss Peregrine to close the loop.

Once everyone is safe Jacob makes the painful decision to return to the present day and his parents. Not wanting things to turn out the way they did with Abe, Emma insist that they revert to being "just friends" but agrees to write him. After his parents intercept some letters from Emma they are convinced he is crazy and plan to send him to a mental institution when Miss Peregrine and the Peculiar Children arrive in present day Florida to rescue him. It seems that all the Peculiar's that were in the Abaton loop when the ymbrynes closed it can now visit the future without aging forward. Emma and Jacob can now be together in the present day, and resume their relationship.

Precious Gifts

Precious GiftsPrecious Gifts by Danielle Steel
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I had trouble getting into the book until half way through and found the characters rather boring.

First we have Veronique who spent the majority of her life as a single Mother, due to a cheating ex husband who she maintains a "friendship" with. It's not until Paul dies that she finally gets on with her life and meets a handsome young photographer (Aidan) that she falls in love with as they pursue the provenance of a painting that Paul returned to Veronique at his death.

Paul's daughter Timmie (I hate her name) finds love with the attorney the girls hire to protect their inheritance from Paul's greedy grasping son.

Juliette (love her name) finds love with the architect she hires to restore the chateau she inherits to it's former glory.

Joy falls for her agent.

And the love child that they didn't know about Sophie receives a modest amount and becomes friends with her half-sisters.

Love my Samsung Galaxy Note 5

Hubby generously offered to get me a tablet for Valentines. After I thought about it I decided I would rather have an upgrade on my phone, I had a Samsung Galaxy S III and when I saw this phablet I knew I had found exactly what I wanted.

I was pleasantly surprised by it's size after having a few friends say they thought it was "too big". It fits comfortably in my hand (I do have long fingers), and fits in my wallet. It's just a little longer than my Hubby's Galaxy S4.

The screen is awesome, I like to watch TV shows on it, while I fold clothes. The sound is fantastic much better than the Galaxy S III's. I got a stand for it so I am really enjoying this.

The camera is great again better than the Galaxy S III's, has lots of different modes. I haven't taken a lot of pictures with it yet as I haven't gotten my Otterbox and am afraid of dropping it. But I have been very pleased with what I have shot and it allows for instant sharing with Facebook, which I love. You can also instantly upload you videos to You Tube.

I haven't used the S Pen that much, but it does write well.

The battery is awesome, the phone stays charged. The wireless charging is a huge plus in my opinion and the fast charge when you plug it into an outlet is fantastic.

I love the Gold Platinum color, my Otterbox is pink and grey.

So I think it'll look nice together. I have made it nice and girly with a pink screen and hearts and flowers. I love the options it has to customize your screen.

It gets an A+ rating in my book.
