Never Die Alone (New Orleans, #8)

Never Die Alone (New Orleans, #8)Never Die Alone by Lisa Jackson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

There are too many sub plots, which I found irritating as it delayed finding out what had happened to Zoe and Chloe.

The first sub plot is Father John has come back leading Bentz to go on a drinking spree. Olivia is also urging him to give up police work.

The second sub plot revolves around the death of Brianna's twin Arianna, and Jase's part in it. Arianna had been sneaking out at night to meet Jase, the local rebel without a cause. One night he was late meeting her and she was raped. Jase attacked the rapist and thought he killed him (he still has the knife scare from the fight) he begged Arianna to go to the cops, but she refused, and begged him not to tell anyone. Jase took Arianna home, then asked his Father (Ed) to go with him to the cops, but Ed refused and told him that he and Jase's older brother (Prescott) would bury the body. When in truth the rapist was a friend of Ed's who had merely been knocked unconscious and who left town to avoid rape charges. Shortly after the rape Arianna drown. Jase has felt guilty about her death ever since. Jase also discovers that he has a twin brother he didn't know about. I really feel this revelation should have been left until after Zoe's rescue not before.

The third sub-plot revolves around Milo, a man from Brianna's Twinless Twin group. Milo has been following Brianna around. Milo tells Brianna he thinks she is in danger because he saw her with Jacob (it was actually Jase he saw her with) and reveals that Jacob killed his sister Myra on their 21st birthday.

Chloe and Zoe are kidnapped shortly before their 21st birthday. The twins find themselves naked and tied up in a basement with a nutcase singing "The Birthday Song" in his birthday suit plus an apron. Zoe manages to free herself while Chloe's whining distracts the killer. Zoe attacks him and both girls escape. Unfortunately while the killer was badly injured he soon regained consciousness and went after them. While trying to lead him away from Chloe, Zoe falls in the river. Chloe takes his truck but soon runs into a gate, the killer finds her at the gate and takes her back to the basement while he goes to look for Zoe. Chloe manages to catch him off guard and escapes a second time but is quickly recaptured. Zoe is almost caught but she manages to get to the road and flag down help before he can shoot her. When she goes to the police station she goes berserk when she sees Jase and identifies him as her attacker. But once she calms down she realizes he isn't the same guy Jase then reveals he has an identical twin (Jacob) he just found out about. They go to the shack the girls were being held at where they find Jacob dead and Chloe close to death.

Your Next Breath (Catherine Ling #4)

Your Next BreathYour Next Breath by Iris Johansen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I didn't like the way she bounced back and forth between Catherine's story and Eve and Jane. I think she is probably trying to tie all the series back together. Bonnie was delivering the same message at the end as in the last Eve Duncan book "something bad is coming and she may not be able to "visit" anymore".

People Catherine care about are being killed and a message left for Catherine. Catherine gets her friends to safety including Erin, who brings Cameron into the picture. After making arrangements to keep Catherine's friends and family safe, Cameron and Catherine go after Santos who wants to punish Catherine for killing his wife.

Before Jane could get to safety she was shot and left for dead. When the doctors tell Eve there is no hope, she calls Seth Caleb who saves Jane's life.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great book, the best Patterson I have read in awhile.

When a boy genius (he isn't even old enough to drink) discovers that his work is being used by the CIA to torture and kill people he contacts Claire (a reporter) to get the story out. But on the way to meet Owen, Claire is killed in a carjacking.

Her boyfriend Trevor Mann doesn't buy it was a random carjacking and is able to discover the address Claire was going to. To his surprise he finds the man who carjacked Claire's taxi dead in the bathtub, in the hotel room Claire was headed to. More convinced then ever that something fishy is going on he sets up a meet. But the people he intends to meet are playing for keeps. Owen warns him and the two go on the run trying to stay ahead of the people (CIA) who want them dead, while gathering enough evidence to put the bad guys away.

Nowhere Safe (Nowhere, #3)Nowhere Safe by Nancy Bush
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

OK, this book should have been included in the Wicked Series (probably #3) especially as at the end Ani winds up at Siren Song with Catherine and is Mad Maddy's daughter.

Ani was taken in by a "herbalist" Mr. Blue who provides her with tools to complete her mission to rid the world of pedophiles, after she survived the bonfire in Unseen by Nancy Bush

The mailman who is inappropriate with little girls along his route is found tied to a flag pole with a sign around his neck he died of exposure and some speculate it was an assisted suicide. But when Stefan is found tied up in the same manner outside the school where he works the police believe they have a serial killer on their hands. Stefan lies about what happened for fear the police will discover his secret. But when Ani returns and shoots him he reveals that his kidnapper was a woman not a man as he first said and that she also stole his van.

The police get a break when a young couple making out remember seeing Ani fleeing from Stefan's moments after he is shot and are able to provide a description. Will and Gemma come to the police station and tell them about Ani after seeing her picture on TV.

Realizing she has been discovered Ani makes plans to take out the most depraved of the pedophiles she was stalking a teacher (Graham) who not only likes young girls  but has developed a taste for murder, after murdering the barely legal girl he meet at a bar. Ani breaks into Graham's home and waits for him, but he overpowers her and takes her to his Father's house where he plans to keep her, but she is able to turn the tables on him.
