Cure (Jack Stapleton & Laurie Montgomery, #10)Cure by Robin Cook
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

The low rating is because a dog was needlessly murdered. Dogs do not get to choose their owners.

Laurie is back from maternity leave and her first case appears to be natural causes, but with time on her hands Laurie delves further into the case to the dismay of the mob. The Mob Capo decides to kidnap her son (JJ) to distract her from the case. Laurie and Jack hire Kidnap Experts to retrieve their son.

One Shot (Jack Reacher, #9)One Shot by Lee Child
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Great book.

The police have an open and shut case against James Barr in the slaughter of five people in the town square, the only problem is he is innocent. Barr knows his one chance to prove his innocence is to get Jack Reacher. But no one can find Reacher.

Seeing the massacre on the news and hearing the purported killers name Reacher heads to town to make sure this time Barr pays for gunning down innocent people. But when he receives a hostile reception due to the misconception that that he is there to "help" Barr, Reacher takes another look at the evidence and uncovers a conspiracy to frame an innocent man for a crime he didn't commit in order to cover up the murder of Oline Archer. Now Reacher must rescue Barr's sister from "The Zec" and discover if the dirty insider is the cop Emerson or the D.A. Rodin.

Life of Pi

Life of PiLife of Pi by Yann Martel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I found the writing style tedious. We learn how Pi got his name and about his early childhood in India. Eventually his family chooses to immigrate to Canada, but their ship sinks on the way. Pi is the sole survivor and he has two accounts of what happened after the ship wreck. One involving Zoo animals including a Bengal Tiger called Richard Parker. The other a gruesome story of murder and cannibalism.

The Boleyn Inheritance

The Boleyn Inheritance (The Tudor Court, #3)The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Found it annoying as it switched between the voices of Anne of Cleves (who seemed to be the smartest of the 3 and managed to escape Henry VIII with her life), Katherine Howard ( who was your typical flighty 16 year old) and Lady Jane Rochford.

Still not sure if Jane was a calculating bitch or crazy. The one thing the three had in common were that they were puppets for power hungry men. Only Anne had the courage to seek independence and a life without a man.

Today I am sad

Graphic by Gracie
I am heartbroken for the families who have lost their loved ones due to the senseless shooting in Connecticut. I hope one day we can have common sense laws that keep guns out of the hands of those who would kill innocent people. I hope one day we can have health care that allows those with mental problems to receive the help they need to lead happy productive lives instead of senselessly harming themselves and others.

The pathetic, sewer-mouthed Gina Miller

Gina Miller spews hatred and vitriol against any she deems unworthy.

This week she has chosen to go after COMEDIAN Bill Maher, after Maher twitted that he would no longer listen to Andy Williams Christmas music not because he didn't like the music but because of Andy Williams political beliefs. Apparently CONSERVATIVES believe in boycotting anyone with beliefs differing from their own but get their panties in a wad when the other side does the same.

Then she went after Hillary Clinton. Apparently the Miller's of this world believe Israel should get a free pass to treat the Palestinians any way they wish. I am not a fan of the Clintons but in this case Hillary is correct, until Israel shows some empathy and generosity toward their neighbors there will be no peace in the Middle East. Anyway you slice it the Palestinians got a raw deal when the British   announced that they would be ending their control of Palestine in 1947 and enabled the Palestinian homeland to be stolen by the Zionist. Sadly the unrest in the Middle East and the terrorism that plagues us today was predicted.

Former Undersecretary of State Dean Acheson also opposed Zionism. Acheson’s biographer writes that Acheson “worried that the West would pay a high price for Israel.”

Another Author, John Mulhall, records Acheson’s warning: “ transform [Palestine] into a Jewish State capable of receiving a million or more immigrants would vastly exacerbate the political problem and imperil not only American but all Western interests in the Near East.”

Secretary of Defense James Forrestal also tried, unsuccessfully, to oppose the Zionists. He was outraged that Truman’s Mideast policy was based on what he called “squalid political purposes,” asserting that “United States policy should be based on United States national interests and not on domestic political considerations.”
~The Real Story of How Israel Was Created

Until we acknowledge that the Palestinians were treated unfairly and have justifiable grievances we will be unable to find solutions to the problems in the Middle East.

The final attack was on Bob Costas whose outrageous crime in Miller's eyes was daring to suggest that easy access to guns played a part in the murder/suicide of Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra. Perkins.

The Twelve

The Twelve (The Passage, #2)The Twelve by Justin Cronin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I found this harder to get into then "The Passage", lots of new characters introduced and jumps around a lot between past and present, and if you haven't read "The Passage" you will be lost as it refers frequently to events and relationships in the previous book.

Hollis has turned into a criminal and works for Tifty Lamount. We eventually discover that Tifty is a friend of Lucius Greer (who is now a prisoner because he went with Peter and Amy in "The Passage").

Alicia (who is turning into a viral due to the bite she received in "The Passage") is sent to investigate a mysterious outpost of humans. She is only suppose to observe but when she sees prisoners about to be executed she intervenes and is taken prisoner.

Peter and Michael are reunited on the oil fields. Peter is escorting the oilers back to Kerrville when they are attacked by humans, including a mysterious woman. When the human attackers release virals into the skirmish most of the "oil party" is taken prisoner or killed. Peter, Michael and Lore (Michael's girlfriend) escape. When they return to Kerrville they discover that Lucius Greer has escaped and disappeared with Amy. Colonel Gunnar Apgar tells Peter (off the record) about the mysterious outpost, Alicia's secret orders and encourages him to use his friendship with Hollis to get him to introduce him to Tifty and gain his help reaching the outpost.

Sarah has been at the mysterious outpost for 5 years and has given birth to Hollis' daughter there. Red Eyes (humans who have drunk the blood of virals in order to extend their lives) and Cols (human collaborators) have raided human settlements to provide slave labor and "food" for the virals. Sarah joins the insurgents along with Eustace and Nina (Tifty's daughter).

The Twelve minus Babcock who was killed in "The Passage" plan to retreat to the "outpost" where the Red Eyes will protect them while the human population has a chance to rebound. The virals are in danger of starving since they have killed so many humans. Alicia, Greer, Amy, Peter, Hollis, Michael and the Insurgents will work together to kill "The Twelve" and rescue their friends and family.

The Casual Vacancy

The Casual VacancyThe Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

J.K. Rowling's brings the prejudice and meanness of Pagford to life in her book The Casual Vacancy.

The death of Barry Fairbrother impacts various people in the town of Pagford. For his best friend Gavin it means a chance to pursue Barry's widow. For the Mollison Family it means a chance to rid Pagford of "The Fields". For many of the kids in Pagford Barry's death gives them a chance to get even with their parents by hacking the Pagford website and posting secrets as The_Ghost_of_Barry_Fairbrother. For Krystal Weedon, the loss of her mentor has catastrophic results.

I started off not liking Samantha Mollison, but her character shows signs of maturing at the end of the book.

Persuader (Jack Reacher, #7)Persuader by Lee Child
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Jack Reacher was still in the military he sent Frasconi and Kohl to arrest Quinn. Quinn killed Frasconi and tortured and killed Kohl before he escaped. Reacher used the info that Kohl had gathered to track him and kill him.

Now 10 years later Reacher sees Quinn on the streets. He calls in a favor to get the name and the address for the the car that Quinn got into and gets roped into an off the books DEA investigation with the primary goal of the DEA being to rescue their undercover agent and Reacher's goal being to kill Quinn.

From the beginning their plans seem to go horribly wrong and Reacher is almost exposed numerous times. Then the maid is exposed as an ATF agent and Reacher realized that the DEA doesn't have any jurisdiction in the case as Quinn is a gun runner not a drug runner as they thought. He chooses to stay in with no backup and in typical Reacher fashion overcomes enormous odds to rescue the agent and kill Quinn.

Nick is tasked with finding Ben and warning him to stay away from Bella but as Nick follows Ben's trail Jean's story begins to unravel.

Thanks to Chuck Lazer, Miller is able to rescue Garvald on the way back to police headquarters Garvald takes Miller's car when they stop to arrest Jango (Manton's driver). Cross (Alex Cross, #12)Cross by James Patterson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Not sure how I missed this book. And I have to admit the low marks may be due to me already knowing how things turned out because I have read books that come after it.

Alex Cross is back in private practice after getting shot during a hostage rescue.

A mob hit man (The Butcher) is raping women and scaring them into keeping quiet about it by showing them pictures of what he did to women who talked. This same man raped a woman who confided in Maria Cross and may be responsible for Maria's murder.

Sampson and Alex bring him down and then Sampson reveals a secret he has been keeping from Alex.

PluggedPlugged by Eoin Colfer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I like his Artemis Fowl series better but it's possible Daniel McEvoy might grow on me.

Daniel is Irish American and currently residing in America and working as a bouncer at a sleazy club. His friend and Doctor Zeb is missing and one of the local mob bosses (Irish Mike) thugs was in his place of business when Daniel kills him with a key in self defense. He places the body in the trunk of the thugs car and leaves it at the bus depot.

Then a customer (Faber) licks Connie (hostess at the club and Daniels one time fling) ass. Daniel makes him apologize but when Connie turns up dead in the parking lot Daniel assumes the Faber is the killer and fingers him to the cops.

The cops confront Faber and he gets very irate, they tail him but to Daniel's surprise during the stakeout one of the cops (Goran) pulls a gun on her partner Deacon and plans to execute her. Daniel shoots Goran from his hiding spot where he was watching the stake out, and then watches Deacon finish her off after Goran tries to attack her again.

Deacon figures out Daniel was the shooter and goes to his apartment where they have sex. She reveals she put Goran in the trunk of the car and left it out front. But Goran was dead and called for help. Faber's goons come get her and Deacon and Daniel follow and are captured. Turns out Faber and Goran were stealing drugs and selling them. With Goran dead Faber needs someone to take the drugs, he makes a deal with Daniel to do it with Deacon held hostage. Daniel gets the drugs but sets Faber up to look like he killed Irish Mike's thug. Daniel and Deacon hide in the freezer when Irish Mike bust in and kills Faber and his goons.

Daniel then listens to his messages and realizes that Faber didn't kill Connie. He is then picked up by Irish Mike who thinks he has a disk Zeb was blackmailing him with. He takes him to Zeb's office where Daniel finds Zeb still alive. Daniel puts his contingency plan into motion and manages to work a deal with Irish Mike so he and Zeb escape alive.

Daniel then figures out who really killed Connie.

Midsummer's Knight by Kinley MacGregor

Where's My Hero?Where's My Hero? by Kinley MacGregor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Only read Midsummer's Knight by Kinley MacGregor as I am reading both The MacAllisters series and the The Brotherhood of the Sword series. Simon (Draven of Ravenswood's) younger brother, Stryder's best friend and Sin's foster brother, has a problem as a landless knight there is no way he can hope to gain permission to marry the woman he loves much less win her heart or so he thinks. So when she starts writing Stryder of Blackmoor as Stryder's secretary he responds. At first the letters are innocent enough but then Simon lets his feelings show, since he only signs the letters with an S and Kenna doesn't know The Wraiths name she assumes the letters are from Stryder and tells her cousin Callie that she is betrothed to the Earl of Blackmoor. Simon not realizing that Kenna has read more into the letters then he intended talks Stryder into going to England for a tournament where he can see Kenna who will be there with Sin and Callie. When they arrive Stryder is bemused by all those congratulating him on his betrothal, but he is down right astonished when Kenna throws herself in his arms announcing her pleasure at seeing her fiancee and mentions his "letters" to her. Since Stryder is illiterate and depends on Simon to attend his correspondence he immediately knows who to blame. Simon explains himself to Kenna and wins her heart they spend a magical day together only to be confronted by King Malcome of Scotland there to see his cousin married to Stryder. He finally says that he will allow Kenna to marry the winner of the tournament but Stryder is known as the undefeated champion and even to escape a marriage he doesn't want and for his friendship with Simon he will not allow Simon to win. Simon is determined to win but the strap on his horse breaks and he crashes to the ground in defeat. Stryder apologizes but Simon is angry with him, Stryder stalks away but Simon sees someone fixing to shoot Stryder and charges Stryder knocking him to the ground and taking the arrow meant for Stryder..............

Alasandra's Reading List ~ October

  1. Infamous by Sherrilyn Kenyon (Chronicles of Nick) - Ambrose (Nick) may have finally succeeded in changing Nick's destiny. Nick now knows that Ambrose isn't his Uncle but is himself come back from the future. Adrian (Nick's Father) plans to kill Nick and eat his heart thus gaining his power. With the combined powers he would be untouchable. But Nick isn't that easy to kill and has some pretty fearsome backup to call on. Also he realizes how much he loves Kody when she is dying and makes a deal with a surprising ally to save her. Can't wait for the next installment.
  2. A History of Islamic Societies by Ira M. Lapidus - very informative but I found it hard to get into.
  3. Taming the Scotsman by Kinley MacGregor - Blaming himself for his brother Kieran's suicide (which it seems was faked) Ewan is determined to spend his life alone in his highland cave. Then Nora shows up demanding that he take her to her Aunt Eleanor of Aquitaine so she can escape marriage to Ryan. No sooner do they sat out for Lochlan's (Ewan's elder brother and clan leader) then they are abducted by gypsies. But the gypsies aren't what they seem especially the exotically beautiful Catarina.  It seems that Alexander's (Nora's Father) plot to unite his family with the MacAllisters is working beautifully when Nora and Ewan are abducted by the MacKaids. They plan to kill Nora and place the blame on Ewan. Ewan's incredible strength allows him to save himself and Nora but he is grievously wounded. Looking forward to further books in the series involving Lochlan's romance with Catarina (hinted at in this book) and why Kieran faked his death and has remained away so long.
  4. The Warrior by Kinley MacGregor -Lochlan is in France looking for news of Kieran when he sees Catarina being pursued by the Kings Guards. Believing he owes her Ewan's life he intervenes and helps her escape. After giving his word to reunite her with her Uncle and Cousin after he sees Lord Stryder in Rouen they set out for the Tourney. Attacked by highwaymen who turn out to be friends of Catarina's Lochlan gains a knight (Bracken) to watch his back.  Stryder tells Lochlan of TWO MacAllister brothers in the Holy Land, Duncan & Kieran and that he does not know which Scot survived, but that after the tourney he will take them to him. Before they leave Oswald cousin of the English King has Lochlan arrested because of something his FATHER did years ago. As the highest ranking noble present Oswald insist that Lochlan be flogged, to save Lochlan Caterina reveals her identity as Philips daughter and a princess of France outranking Oswald. When she is taken into custody Lochlan vows to free her. But before he can the MacKaids kidnap her and plan to kill her framing Lochlan. Stryder seeks out Kestrel to help them and with his friends help Lochlan rescues Catrina and flees to the Scot's Castle. At the Scot's Castle Lochlan discovers that Kieran is dead. Before they can leave Philip tracks them down and makes a deal with Lochlan to give Catarina her freedom in exchange for Lochlan's life. Once Lochlan proves his love for Catarina to King Philip he allows them to wed and they return to Scotland. Where Lochlan receives a visit from Kieran. (This is both a MacAllister novel and a Brotherhood of the Sword novel).
  5. A Dark Champion by Kinley MacGregor - Takes place before The Warrior. Rowena de Vitry hates fighting and has no wish to marry a knight. Stryder has no wish to be married period as he doesn't wish anything to get in the way of his missions for The Brotherhood. But King Henry and Queen Eleanor wants to see them wed and Eleanor comes up with the perfect plot to make sure the couple falls in love. The motto of the Brotherhood was "WE all survive, WE all go home, WE are brothers unto the end" but not everyone in the Brotherhood was decent, unbeknownst to Stryder when he sent Cyril and others to release Aquarius and the other women and young boys held in special cells they took advantage of them and left them behind. Tortured for five years these others were willing to do anything to escape their hell, even become assassins of The Brotherhood. When Cyril is murdered Stryder is accused, upon a second death Stryder is taken into custody and Henry demands a "trial by combat", with Stryder's opponent being the one man Stryder will not fight (his former foster brother) Damien St Cyr. When it looks as if Damien will kill Stryder, Damien reveals a shocking secret guaranteed to make Stryder fight. Stryder wins the battle and refuses to kill Damien. With Rowena in his bed Stryder seems to have everything under control then a Saracen servant shows up with a young boy (Alexander) she claims is Stryder's son, and offers his medallion for proof. Realizing that Damien was the last to have the medallion, he confronts him about sending Alexander to him and stumbles upon a surprising secret. (This book takes place before The Warrior and the epilogue sets up Christian's story).
  6. Return of The Warrior by Kinley MacGregor - Queen Adara tracks down her wayward husband Prince Christian (aka The Abbot)  and beseeches him to return home to claim his throne. But unbeknownst to Adara  Selwyn sent a small army after her to kill her and Christian, in order to keep the throne. Fleeing for their lives Christian sent Adara to a monastery to seek sanctuary from Brother Thomas. Holding the soldiers off long enough for Adara to escape Christian is badly wounded and close to death until Phantom shows up. Phantom gets Christian to the monastery. Adara realizes who Phantom is but agrees not to tell Christian. Once Christian is recovered they leave the monastery through secret tunnels and start amassing an army made up mainly of members of the Brotherhood. On the way to Elgedera Christian is attacked and mortally wounded. When he miraculously recovers the Bishop of Venice accuses Adara of being a witch and has her arrested. Christian and his army free her and continue on their way to Elgedera. Believing they will be ambushed at a certain pass Christian leaves Adara behind where he thinks she will be safe but the wily Selwyn was just waiting for the opportunity to kidnap Adara. Phantom uses his contacts in the city to sneak inside the palace so Christian can reclaim his wife and his throne.

Big problem for Solin his daughter (Half Were-Hunter/Half Dream-Hunter) is the key. Solin rallies his enemies to go to his daughters aid. Lydia uses her powers to teleport Seth and herself to Sanctuary in New Orleans where Carson treats Seth's injuries. Seth's Aunt (Ma'at) shows up and heals Seth and provides him with a body guard, Maahes. Maahes takes them to his home in New Orleans but Verlyn (God Noir sent to bring Seth back to slavery and to capture Lydia) finds them. They manage to escape to Ma'at's temple but a bunch of people show up some wanting to kill Lydia others lead by Solin trying to protect her. Seth figures out that Lydia is the key and comes up with a plan to protect her. He brings a "dead" Lydia into the throne room and allows Verlyn to drag him back to Azmodea for Noir to torture. Lydia awakens days later at Solin's home with no memory of her time in Azmodea or Seth. When she remembers Seth she leads her own army to bring Seth home.
  9. I, Michael Bennett by James Patterson - Not as good as some of the previous books. I know it is a work of fiction but the police brutality and cutting corners really bothered me. Michael Bennett decides to arrest The Sun King at his daughters graduation, things go from bad to worse his long time friend Hughie is killed by Marietta and The Sun King kills a young waiter before Bennett captures him. Marietta manages to escape. In between chasing the bad guys Bennett manages to screw things up with Mary Catherine. Sadly The Sun King doesn't stay in jail. With his money and power he arranges to bust out of jail. Bennett manages to track him down to a cabin in the woods where the Feds start a forest fire to flush him out. The Sun King leaves a naked Marietta behind swimming in the pool as he flees on an ATV. Bennett kills her when she reaches for a gun. Leading to the Sun King putting a hit out on his family, including Mary Catherine. The book ends with all the Bennetts including Mary Catherine going into a witness protection program.
  10. Born in Sin by Kinley MacGregor - Callie (Caledonia) hates all things English so she is horrified when King Henry forces her to marry an English Earl. Sin is attracted to the red haired beauty but he hates Scotland and has no wish to return or marry a Scottish lass. But feeling he owes Henry from rescuing him from slavery in Outremer he agrees to marry Callie and discover who The Raider is raiding Henry's subjects. Callie soon discovers Sin's soft side as she watches his kindness to her younger brother Jamie and his consideration of her. When his Mother attacks him Callie comes to his defense and falls in love with her handsome husband. But her clan refuses to accept him and are plotting how to get rid of him. They have invited the MacAllisters to come help them and are rather surprised at the warm welcome Sin receives from them and are amazed to discover that he is there "bastard" brother. When he save a village from an enraged bull most of the villagers are won over and decide to celebrate his wedding to Callie, but Dermot (Callie's brother) takes advantage of the celebration to poison Sin. But Sin's friend Simon eats the cake instead of Sin. Suspecting Dermot is The Raider he fears that doing his duty to Henry will drive a wedge between him and Callie. He allows Aster to go after Dermot, but when neither return he fears the worst and rides out with his brothers only to discover that Henry has been attacked. A remorseful Dermot returns Aster's body to the castle and tells how his plan to hold Henry for ransom went horribly wrong. When King Henry shows up demanding The Raider be turned over to him Sin takes the blame. Henry leaves with Sin planning to execute him in England, but Callie rallies her clan and the MacAllister clan and goes after them. She threatens to go to war with Henry if he doesn't return her husband. Henry refuses until Dermot finds the courage to reveal he is The Raider. Surprised that The Raider is a young boy Henry agrees not to kill him but insist he be taken into English custody. Sin bargains for Simon's brother Draven to be awarded his guardianship and Henry agrees.
  11.   Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James - After all the hype I was expecting more then a Harlequin Romance with kinky sex. Typical naive young girl meets handsome rich experienced guy and is swept off her feet. They fall madly in love but something comes between them. In this case Christian's past.Christian Grey was born to a drug addict and prostitute that we assume abused him (cigarette burns on his chest) adopted by the perfect family at age four he doesn't feel he fits in. An older female friend of the family (Ana refers to as Mrs Robinson but we do learn her first name is Elena) seduces Grey when he is 15 with S&M which is the only form of sex he engages in. Then he meets the virgin Ana and has vanilla sex for the first time. He also promises her "more" and tries to deliver. He meets her step-Father at graduation, he takes her to a family dinner, and he follows her to Georgia where he meets her Mother. Everything seems to be working out until his need to punish pushes Ana to far and she walks out.Personal I found the witty emails they exchanged the best part of the book.
11th Hour (Women's Murder Club, #11)11th Hour by James Patterson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Couldn't put it down.

A rogue cop is murdering drug dealers and severed heads are found at a movie stars estate. The police find several more buried on the grounds. And a pg Lindsay believes Joe is cheating on her.

If that isn't enough on Lindsay's plate a jerk reporter is taking liberties with the truth and screwing with her cases.

But as usual the Women's Murder Club solves the crimes and the reporter gets his just deserts when he is caught with a hooker.

And Lindsay finally listens to Joe who has been telling her the truth all along.

Last Nights Debate

Helen says it best.

I will add that Romney reminded me of a snake oil salesman. Honestly his manic chatter gave me a headache. It was like he was afraid if he stopped talking those listening might have time to think and realize that with Romney 2+2 no longer equals 4 but whatever Romney has decided it should equal at the moment. Or worse yet they might ask a question he didn't have an fairytale answer for.

And his bullying of Jim Lehrer was appalling. He ran roughshod over the moderator. It became sadly apparent that President Obama would also have to ignore Lehrer in order to get a chance to present his views.

Somebody over in the Romney campaign decided to go ahead and shake that Etch A Sketch

When Grace Packard turns up dead everyone assumes she is just another victim of the Rainlover, but is she? and will the arrest of her killer put another woman in great danger? But most of all can the love of a good woman reform Gunny?

  5. Against Medical Advice  by James Patterson and Hal Friedman - The heartwarming story of Cory Friedman's battle with Tourette's Syndrome and OCD.  It really makes you think how blessed you are if you have your health and healthy children. And hopefully it will remind all of us to be kinder to those less fortunate then ourselves.
  6. Time Untime by Sherrilyn Kenyon - Ren has to keep Kateri alive long enough for her to reset the calendar and choose new gatekeepers or the world will end. But can he overcome the past and defeat his brother Coyote once and for all with the help of his friends.
  7. Born of Silence by Sherrilyn Kenyon - only one person knows the "real" Darling Cruel, his best friend Maris. Everyone else thinks he is gay, even his closest friends. Zarya deeply in love with Kere, is shocked when her Resistance Fighters kidnap Prince Cruel but worried sick about the missing Kere she dismisses him from her thoughts. Believing Prince Cruel has done something to Kere she rushes to confront him only to discover that he has been tortured for months at the hands of the Resistance. As they are stormed by the Sentella she relizes the shocking truth that Kere is Darling Cruel. Driven mad by the torture Darling has set out on a path of destruction. Realizing that Zarya may be the only one who can bring him back Maris tracks her down and gives her to Darling. Convinced she betrayed him Darling still finds it impossible to turn his back on her and with the love of Zarya & Maris and the help of his friends Darling will start to put his Empire back together. And while Maris will never have more then Darling's friendship he is willing to follow Darling into danger to rescue Zarya and finds his own love in the process (So hope Maris and Ture will get their own book or at least play a large role in future books).
  8. Artemis Fowl The Atlantis Complex by Eoin Colfer - Artemis is suffering from Atlantis Complex a mental disorder induced by guilt. Unfortunately the symptoms are paranoia, split personality, and strange compulsions. Artemis is now terrified of the number 4. Artemis' illness makes it easy for Turnbull Root to put his plan to escape from Atlantis into action. First he takes advantage of the fact that Artemis sent Butler away convinced the bodyguard was out to get him to arrange an attack on Butler & Juliet. Then he arranges to turn Foaly's own probe against Holly, Foaly and Commander Vinyaya when Artemis arranges to meet them in Vatnajokull, Iceland in order to pitch "The Project" to them. With a little help from an unlikely hero (Mulch Diggiums) everyone is rescued and Artemis' alter ego Orion even manages to help bring Turnbull down.
  9. The One You Love by Paul Pilkington - (free ebook) It took me months to read it. Really never cared about any of the characters in fact I would have been happy to kill a few of them off to end the torture or reading it. Emma is at her hen party when she finds out that her fiance never made it to his bachelor party. Everyone rushes to Emma & Dan's apartment where they find an unconscious Richard (Best-man & Brother of the Groom). The police believe that Dan & Richard fought about something and that Dan fled the crime scene and have little patience for Emma's insistence that he was kidnapped. Emma runs around trying to find clues about Dan's whereabouts with her friend Lizzie and brother Will (who hints that a secret in his past may be responsible for Dan's disappearance). First she tracks down a former stalker to see if he had anything to do with it only to discover he committed suicide years ago.  Then her ex-fiance (she seems to go through them like Kleenex) shows up and lets her know he wants her back. After she rejects him he commits suicide and the police find evidence he kidnapped Dan, but the real kidnapper has now taken Lizzie and if Emma doesn't unravel the clues soon it may be to late for them all.
  10. Artemis Fowl The Last Guardian by Eoin Colfer -  The Fowl Estate is Ground Zero in Opal Koboi's diabolical plot to destroy the human race and rule the fairies. Using ancient black magic Opal is able to bring the Berserkers back to life and they take over any available bodies on the estate; including the bodies of Juliet, and Artemis' twin brothers, Beckett and Myles. Loath to harm their friends and family Butler, Holly and Artemis must find a way to prevent Juliet, Beckett and Myles from killing them without doing them physical harm. But even more importantly they must stop Opal from opening the second gate and bringing Danu forth to destroy humans. With time running out and his options limited Artemis comes up with a brilliant plan to stop Opal, but it means sacrificing his own life. Can even Artemis Fowl cheat death?
  11.  Guilty Wives by James Patterson - I think it would have been better IF the readers hadn't know who set the wives up from the beginning of the book. But all in all it was a good read. Four wealthy women who are living in Bern Switzerland with their husbands plan a "girls only" get away to Monte Carlo. Unbeknownst to them the husbands are in Monte Carlo spying on them and they don't like what they see. After spending the night on a yacht with some rich playboys the wives are accused of murdering Devo and Luc. But unbeknownst to anyone but Winnie, Devo is the President of France who she has been having an affair with. He came incognito and with just one bodyguard, Luc, in order to spend time with her. Serena, Winnie, and Bryah break and are willing to admit to a crime they didn't commit but Abbie is determined to uncover the truth. After they are found guilty and sent to prison Abbie is tortured in order to get her to confess. When that doesn't work her cell mate Linette is killed and then Winnie. Realizing she will be killed next Abbie comes up with a daring escape plan using the jailers plans to kill her against them. On the run she is discovered by Christian (Winnie's husband) who gives her money, a fake passport and a plane ticket to Brazil but at the last minute she decides to say in France and fight to prove her innocence. Her conviction was in part caused by the actor Damon Kodiak (who she had a one night stand with on the yacht) lying about being there. As luck would have it his newest moving is premiering at a French Theater and she knows his secret. Using the secret to confront him alone she gets him to confess that Simon and Carlton were the masterminds behind the plot. But before she can use the confession to her advantage Simon and Carlton show up with plans to silence Abbie and Damon once and for all. Thankfully Christian shows up to right the injustice.
  12. The Last Place God Made by Jack Higgins - Neil Mallory is setup by Sam Hannah who desperately needs a pilot. When Mallory finds out her refuses to stay in Hannah's employment. To get even Hannah frames him for diamond stealing. Sent to a "work camp" Mallory escapes on the way there and goes to confront Hannah. Hannah confesses all to the authorities but redeems himself when Mallory is stranded and attacked by Indians.
  13. Homer's Odyssey by Gwen Cooper - very touching book, I highly recommend it to anyone who loves cats.

Bad Movies & Gina Miller

We have yet another rant by Gina Miller Because of a cheesy, anti-Islam video? Give us a break!  So when Christians throw a hissy fit because somebody insults their god it's OK, but everybody else is suppose to be cool with it, yeah right. Gina gets busy insulting Mohammad right off the bat I wonder how OK she would be if someone posted a You Tube video that "claims Mary was a prostitute and JESUS is a GAY Megalomaniac and they claim it's the truth about him? And YES, it's been done and No American Christians didn't start rioting but I am sure they were displeased by it. No one likes to have their religious beliefs mocked. Politics in the Middle East are complicated and throwing fuel on the fire of an already volatile  situation is STUPID.

Then she rushes off to insult THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Gina dear we all know how bitter you are that the Republicans LOST 4 years ago, but your childish insults and vitriolic comments show just how immature you and the other Republicans are. Instead of supporting our President and working with him to better America your party has bent over backwards to destroy America. In November what we are going to remember is that President Obama had a good plan to put Americans back to work but that Republicans stood in the way.

Then because this is the party of nutcases and conspiracy theories she starts in with the paranoia.

Then, the news came out that Ambassador Stevens was a homosexual. This is stunning. Not that he was a homosexual, because the Obama administration is loaded with homosexuals, possibly including Obama himself, but that the brainiacs in this administration saw fit to appoint a homosexual as a United States representative to an Islamic country

Ambassador Stevens' sexual orientation shouldn't even be an issue. A man is dead but Gina and her ilk use the opportunity to attack homosexuals and the President of the United States, and they wonder why so many people are fleeing the Republican Party. Maybe they should try looking in a mirror sometime.

By all accounts Ambassador Stevens was well liked and preformed his job well

Every decent Libyan here in Tripoli is appalled. What has transpired in the American Consulate in Benghazi recently “will live in infamy.”

A benighted and misguided group espousing twisted ideologies did not like the new face of Libya. They wanted to quell democracy in Libya in its inception.

The late American ambassador was the epitome of decency. Christopher Stevens was a modest man who attended local weddings and ate traditional food with Libyan friends. His rare diplomacy and sharp perspicacity helped Libya in its darkest hour. He was not allowed to finish his magnanimous mission. Alas, the Fates decreed otherwise.

Our condolences to his family and all Americans.
Onallah M. Mustafa
Tripoli, Libya

But Mr. Mustafa's sentiments don't support Gina Miller's world view so it's not surprising she choose not to share them.

Then Miller starts going off on President Obama's treatment of our dear ally Israel.

He even went so far as to yank Jerusalem — the God-ordained capital of Israel forever — from the hellish Democrat platform, before it was grudgingly restored over the screaming protests of godless Democrats at the convention.

It is thinking like this that has gotten us into the mess in the Middle East. Israel is not deserving of our unilateral support. Israel's history of human rights violations is appalling and it is time we stop basing our Middle Eastern Policy on "Christian Bibical Beliefs" and start basing them on reality. The Palestinians have every right to be angry we stole their homeland to create Israel, can you blame them for wanting at least a part of it back.

The Real Story of How Israel was Created
In 1947 the UN took up the question of Palestine, a territory that was then administered by the British.

Approximately 50 years before, a movement called political Zionism had begun in Europe. Its intention was to create a Jewish state in Palestine through pushing out the Christian and Muslim inhabitants who made up over 95 percent of its population and replacing them with Jewish immigrants.

As this colonial project grew through subsequent years, the indigenous Palestinians reacted with occasional bouts of violence; Zionists had anticipated this since people usually resist being expelled from their land. In various written documents cited by numerous Palestinian and Israeli historians, they discussed their strategy: they would buy up the land until all the previous inhabitants had emigrated, or, failing this, use violence to force them out.

Finally, in 1947 the British announced that they would be ending their control of Palestine, which had been created through the League of Nations following World War One, and turned the question of Palestine over to the United Nations.

Zionists pushed for a General Assembly resolution in which they would be given a disproportionate 55 percent of Palestine. (While they rarely announced this publicly, their stated plan was to later take the rest of Palestine.)

The U.S. State Department opposed this partition plan strenuously, considering Zionism contrary to both fundamental American principles and US interests.

Somehow I tend to think European Americans would get a tad upset if the United Nations tried to force us out of America in order to return it to Native Americans. But Gina Miller and the rest of the Pro-Israel fanatics never want to admit the Palestinians have a legitimate grievance.

And Gina Miller has no problem defending criminals when it suits her purpose.

The maker of the video was hauled in for questioning in the middle of the night in Los Angeles. Why? How dare they detain him? On what grounds? This whole thing is outrageous. We are not Nazi Germany — yet!

What she fails to mention is he was detained because of possible PAROLE VIOLATIONS.

A California man (Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55) convicted of bank fraud was taken in for questioning on Saturday by officers investigating possible probation violations stemming from the making of an anti-Islam film that triggered violent protests in the Muslim world.

U.S. officials have said authorities were not investigating the film project itself, and that even if it was inflammatory or led to violence, simply producing it cannot be considered a crime in the United States, which has strong free speech laws.

Nakoula, whose name has been widely linked to the film in media reports, pleaded guilty to bank fraud in 2010 and was sentenced to 21 months in prison, to be followed by five years on supervised probation, court documents showed.

He was accused of fraudulently opening bank and credit card accounts using Social Security numbers that did not match the names on the applications, a criminal complaint showed. He was released in June 2011, and at least some production on the video was done later that summer.

But the terms of Nakoula's prison release contain behavior stipulations that bar him from accessing the Internet or assuming aliases without the approval of his probation officer.

As well as the fraud conviction, Nakoula also pleaded guilty in 1997 to possession with intent to manufacture methamphetamine and was sentenced to a year in jail, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.

So basically Gina Miller is defending a drug dealer and thief.  But what else would you expect from a Rush wannabe.

Romney Ryan Ticket Espouse Ayn Rand Philosophy

Horseback riding is great exercise and beneficial to everyone including people suffering from MS, to bad more MS suffers do not have the funds to own a horse and enjoy riding.

Most horse owners aren’t able to take a Tax Deduction for their horse. But Ann Romney’s charming dressage “hobby” nets the Romney’s a tax deduction as it’s considered a “passive business investment”. The savings might not be that much to date, but will be substantial when they sale the horse or win big prize money.

Ironically conservatives are perplexed that many taxpaying American’s want to see Mitt Romney’s tax returns especially in light of allegations that he has paid ZERO in Taxes for ten years.  What other deductions has Romney taken?  Deductions could very well enable Romney to legally pay ZERO TAXES. Do you really want to vote for someone who is extremely wealthy but hasn’t been paying his fair share of taxes while you struggle under the tax burden they have place on the middle class?

Do you want to vote for someone who wants to get rid of the safety net of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid that Americans depend on?

The Tea Party had been espousing the immoral Ayn Rand philosophy which considering her views on the sanctity of marriage and family values is ironic.  For those of you unaware of her works she advocated adultery and turning your back on your family if they were not “producers”. Do you really want to vote for the Romney/Ryan ticket that espouses these views?

An inconvenient TRUTH

Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh are up in arms because ..............................

Andrea Saul attacked a pro-Obama Super PAC ad which linked Romney to the cancer death of a wife of a steelworker, who lost his job and spousal health insurance because of Bain Capital's downsizing. Saul went off message and said the fired steel worker would have had access to health care if he had lived in Massachusetts, under Romney’s plan, state health care coverage covers the uninsured.

As both Coulter and Limbaugh pointed out Romney Care is very much like THE AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE ACT, that these nutcases pundits refer to as Obamacare

And no one is saying that Romney went out and murdered anyone. What they are saying is that his management practices caused workers to lose their jobs and their insurance. An inconvenient TRUTH now that Romney is running for President.

Talk about Tools...............

Gina Miller has to be the biggest tool around It's not Romney's 'hidden' tax returns; it's Obama's hidden past.  It is laughable that the Right doesn't have anything "new" against Obama after all these years they are still harping about birth certificates.

Since before the 2008 presidential election, many of us have been trying to find out who Obama is. We have been asking for proof of his eligibility to hold the office of President. By Obama's own admission, his purported father was a foreign national, which would make Obama ineligible, because he is not a natural born citizen as required by the United States Constitution.

For that matter, we have no proof of who Obama's father really is, where Obama was really born, what Obama's real name is or even if he ever gained or regained US citizenship after having been raised in Indonesia for several years as a child

Apparently the Gina Millers' of this world are extremely dense.

President Barack Obama released his long form birth certificate in April 2011 which was certified by the State of Hawaii as being authentic.  So just to recap President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, which is part of the United States. His Mother was an American Citizen. President Barack Obama is a natural born citizen and eligible to be President of the United States.

As for Gina's claim that since President Obama's father was born in Kenya he is ineligible to be President (citizenship doesn't work that way and I expect she knows it), Mitt Romney would have the same problem as George Romney was born in MEXICO.

Also when George Romney ran for President this was decided.

At one point, the Congressional Research Service - an arm of the Library of Congress that is supposed to provide authoritative but impartial research for elected members - advised that its analysts agreed with George Romney, according to a congressional source.
In a paper in November (1967) aimed at clarifying presidential eligibility, the Congressional Research Service declared that the practical, legal meaning of "natural born citizen" would "most likely include" not only anyone born on U.S. soil but anyone born overseas of at least one parent who was a U.S. citizen.

Of course realizing their ranting about birth certificates is beginning to look FOOLISH to everyone but idiots they have moved along to Obama's college records. Of course most of the allegations they make are easily disproved - 5 Facts We Know About Obama’s College Years.

Amazingly after all these demands for transparency by President Obama, they could care less about seeing Mitt Romney's tax returns. My guess is they know if Romney releases his tax returns he'll lose votes.

ONE Chick-fil-A promotes tolerance

Apparently the only thing Gina Miller could find to crow about is old news Early entry for WND's 'Operation Spike' of 2012: Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. And honestly since they don't have any idea how many people were there for the "WATER" they can hardly claim Victory. Notice that Gina Miller and Mike Huckabee aren't the least bit upset that Adam Smith's exercising FREEDOM OF SPEECH cost him his job, but then he is a LIBERAL. .(And for the record I think Adam Smith was acting like a jerk and deserved to lose his job for verbally lashing out at a helpless employee, who behaved very professionally).

Chick-fil-A was the scene of another protest Friday, which wasn't nearly as unsuccessful as Gina Miller would like you to believe.

Gina also failed to mention Going Rogue: New Hampshire Chick-fil-A Will Sponsor Gay Pride Fest. Seems like one person in this whole mess decided to do the decent thing.

This Chick-fil-A manager is taking a stand of his own. In a statement, Piccola said he was excited to take part in the New Hampshire Pride Fest on August 11.

“In both my personal and professional life, I have had and continue to have positive relationships with family, friends, customers and employees in the LGBT community. It would make me sad if someone felt they were not openly welcomed into my life or restaurant based on their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.”

I wish Piccola well and hope more people will listen to his message of tolerance.

Liar Liar Pants on Fire

I wonder why so many of today's Christians are truth challenged are in other words LIARS.

 Gina Miller says

Just recently we have seen a Christian in Phoenix sentenced to jail for holding Bible studies in his own home. - Outrage: hospital 'kidnaps,' injects newborn, expels mom

Except he wasn't. He is charged with building code violations. Apparently Michael Salman took it into his head to build a CHURCH in his backyard.

A Phoenix court found him guilty of 67 code violations in connection to a building where he hosts a weekly Bible study group. Salman was sentenced to 60 days in jail, three years probation and fined $12,180."The case is about the building that is used for regular assembly does not meet construction and fire code requirements for assembly," the City of Phoenix stated Thursday.

And while he insist to Phoenix authourities the building isn't a CHURCH, that isn't what he is telling others.

He held himself out as a being a church through the media (Harvest Christian Church) and claimed a church status for tax exemption purposes on his property,"

Check out the  Fact Sheet Regarding the Michael Salman Case for yourself.

Now Gina is on a rant about a newborn who by the way Gina neglected to mention had jaundice.

The rest of the story

In their suit, the Ferrises allege the hospital did not provide them with adequate information related to their daughter’s birth and mishandled several instances of care, including inoculations and treatment of jaundice. They claim that failure by the center’s staff to treat for jaundice led to the hospitalization of their daughter two days after she was discharged from Hershey.-Williamstown couple sue Hershey Medical Center over baby's treatment after birth

So which is it was there nothing medically wrong with the newborn like Gina Miller rants or did they baby develop jaundice because she didn't receive the proper treatment?

Mitt Romney the Pig with Lipstick

Not sure exactly how the Religious Right Wingnuts like Gina Miller and the Tea Baggers got stuck with Mitt Romney as the GOP candidate. I suspect it is because the GOP Party Leaders know that these loonies will vote for anyone, even a pig with lipstick, as long as it's not President Barack Obama so they attempted to choose a candidate that moderate independent voters might go for.

However, since the horrendous John "Quisling" Roberts Supreme Court decision to uphold the clearly unconstitutional "Obamacare" monster, I have decided to go ahead and vote for the Republican nominee, no matter who he is, even the liberal Mitt Romney. - Top Romney advisor all in for Obamacare implementation by Gina Miller

These people are too funny and let's not forget the PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT is based on similar legislation that Mitt Romney championed and signed into law when he was Governor of Massachusetts.

Now many of these so called Christians have been attacking President Barack Obama claiming he is a Muslim (he isn't) or that the Pastor of the Christian Church he attended wasn't up to snuff, but they seem willing to turn a blind eye to the fact that Mitt Romney is a Mormon.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, recorded 12 July 1843, relating to the new and everlasting covenant, including the eternity of the marriage covenant, and also the plurality of wives (see History of the Church, 5:501–7). Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, it is evident from the historical records that the doctrines and principles involved in this revelation had been known by the Prophet since 1831. - Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, a sort of addendum book to the Book of Mormon

Perhaps they should take a gander at the Book Of Mormon  and the Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of the Latter Day Saints before casting their vote. Since even though ones religious beliefs aren't suppose to be an issue it really seems to matter a lot to these people, at least as long as President Obama's religion was the one being discussed.

Then we have the Defense of Marriage Act which these people are up in arms about. I really wish I knew how they think someone else's marriage harms theirs. With all their phoney outraged you would think it was Christians that were being denied the right to marry.

The war we are in for marriage and morality—a war not of our making or choosing—is raging all across our nation.  We now have this man Barack Obama (or whatever his name is) leading a full-frontal assault on the institution of marriage.  He has loaded his administration with radical homosexual activists; he has spit on the federal Defense of Marriage Act; he has declared his insane belief that people of the same sex should be allowed to “marry;” he has led the charge to homosexualize our military, and now under his Pentagon, we see perverse, false “pride” being shoved in the faces of our troops and the face our entire nation, from the highest level of government.

We also see mega-corporations bowing at the altar of sodomy.  Just this week, Kraft Foods decided to post on its Facebook page a Photoshopped image of an Oreo cookie with rainbow colored frosting filling.  The caption with the image said, “Proudly support love!”  This is the degenerate thinking of the Left.  Proudly support love?  Sodomy is not love, and it is certainly nothing of which to be proud!  This move by Kraft has sparked outrage by conservatives and Christians who are calling for boycotts against Kraft.  Now that is a tough boycott.  Kraft Foods is gigantic, and its brands are myriad.  It would be good if Kraft saw a nosedive in sales of Oreo cookies, though. - Fierce Battle for Marriage Rages in Illinois by Gina Miller

Do they really expect Mitt Romney to be their savior? I mean they do realize that Mitt Romney's  Great - Grandfather went to Mexico so he could continue practicing polygamy.

Romney's family came from England, converted to Mormonism, came to America and quickly turned to plural marriage which led them to an unexpected exile and exodus to Mexico and then just as abruptly, they fled back to the USA to avoid a revolution

Mitt Romney's great-grandfather fled with his three wives to Mexico so they could continue their polygamist lifestyle with a multitude of other Mormon polygamists and settled there, cutting land deals with Mexican president, Porfirio Diaz using funds that came from The Mormon Church. President Diaz was happy to have the Mormon settlers there as a buffer against the Apache Indians. (pg.51).- Romney Family Files: Fled to Mexico Due to a Polygamy Ban Making Them 'The First Displaced Persons of the 20th Century'

And this should really give the birthers pause.

Mitt Romney's father, George S. Romney was born in Mexico in the Colonia Dublan colony in 1907. It's not surprising that a Birther-type discussion was raised about George Romney either. (pg. 53 'The Story Of George Romney.")

As his parents had retained their American citizenship, experts on constitutional law believe his birth in Mexico is no bar to George Romney becoming a candidate for President regardless of the U.S. Constitution's clause: "No person except a natural-born citizen, or a citizen of the United States at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible for the office of President." No court has interpreted this clause but children born abroad or at sea have been considered "natural-born" citizens for passports and other privileges.  - Romney Family Files: Fled to Mexico Due to a Polygamy Ban Making Them 'The First Displaced Persons of the 20th Century'

So George S. Romney (Mitt's Father) is what Mexican - American?  Interestingly enough the American Government helped these felons out when they returned to the United States after fleeing a revolution in Mexico.

I've included this point about Utah's banning polygamy because it appears to be a purely political move even if many Mormons opposed polygamy and as the 2,300 Mormon polygamist refugees fled Mexico, leaving many of their belongings behind, it was the U.S. Government that helped bail them out of their dire situation. (pg. 60)

They had just twenty-five dollars, two suitcases and three bedrolls. Many families were installed in vacant tenements and several hundred were quartered in huge empty lumber sheds on Magoffin Avenue which the Long Lumber Company made available. The U.S. Army supplied rations and loaned tents from Fort Bliss. Mayor C. E. Kelly and city officials joined Church leaders in finding homes and jobs for the refugees.  Congress voted $100,000 for their transportation and relief.
If you calculate $100,000 for inflation from 1912, the figure turns into over $2.2 million in 2011. That's a lot of government money to people who were basically felons in the eyes of the law. Another fascinating thing happened in 1938. Mexico paid out a huge settlement to those early Mexican colonies because of the revolution. (pg.61)

The colonists eventually in 1938 received from Mexico $2.65 for each $100 of loss during the revolutionary disorders. Gaskell Romney's losses were so great that he received enough to purchase a comfortable house in Salt Lake City in which he lived his last years.

It's odd that Mexico would repay monies to the Mormon polygamists after so many years, but one can still make the case that the Romney family was even funded in some part by the Mexican government. To get an idea of how vast the Romney family was because of its polygamist past, in 1922, George Romney had roughly 165 first cousins.
